Grade you can trust
What we quote is what lands on your table. If a lot doesn't make the grade, we tell you before the truck leaves — not after you've opened the box.
Metaglobe Trading buys sea crabs, cuttlefish and a wide range of fish direct from Jaffna's fishing communities, and moves it — cold, quickly and honestly — to wholesale and retail buyers right across Sri Lanka.
Metaglobe Trading (Pvt) Ltd is a Sri Lankan seafood trading company based in Chilaw. We work at the point where the catch changes hands: buying at the Jaffna landings, holding it cold, and delivering it to hotels, processors, wholesale markets and retail outlets around the country.
The margin in seafood is made or lost in the first few hours. That is where we put our attention — grading at the beach, ice on the box, and a truck that actually leaves on time. Everything else follows from that.
Our range follows the season and the sea. These are the lines we buy in volume, week in and week out.
Graded live by size and condition, banded and packed for same-day movement.
Whole or cleaned, iced immediately at landing to hold colour and texture.
Snapper, trevally, emperor, mullet and the rest of the northern reef mix.
Volume lines for wholesale markets, processors and institutional kitchens.
No part of this is complicated. It just has to be done properly, every single day, by people who are actually standing there when the boats come in.
Our buyers work directly with boat owners and fishing societies in the Jaffna district — no chain of middlemen inflating the price or burning the clock.
Sorted by species, size and condition at the beach, then iced immediately. Crab is banded and kept live; cuttlefish goes straight onto ice.
Insulated boxes and chilled transport down to our Chilaw base, with the cold chain held unbroken from the beach to the buyer's door.
Wholesale lots or retail packs, delivered against an agreed grade and price. Clear weights, clear invoices, payment terms you can plan around.
What we quote is what lands on your table. If a lot doesn't make the grade, we tell you before the truck leaves — not after you've opened the box.
Iced at the beach, moved chilled, delivered chilled. The freshness argument is won in the first three hours, and we treat it that way.
One price, quoted per kilo, per grade. No surprise loading, no shifting weights, no charges that appear at settlement.
From Chilaw we serve buyers in Colombo, the north-west and beyond, with routes built around your delivery windows rather than ours.
Our relationships in the north are with the boats themselves. That is why we get first call on the good lots when supply is tight.
We are working towards taking Sri Lankan seafood to overseas buyers, and building the paperwork and process discipline for it now.
Metaglobe is preparing to move from domestic trading into export. The catch is already world class; what an export buyer needs on top of that is consistency, documentation and a supplier who answers the phone. We are building all three before we make promises about volumes.
Our membership of the Sri Lanka–Canada Business Council, granted in 2025, is part of that groundwork.
Metaglobe was set up on the belief that Sri Lanka's seafood deserves a trading partner who is straight with both ends of the chain — fair to the fisherman who landed it and honest with the buyer who pays for it.
That is the whole strategy. Keep the quality where it should be, keep the pricing transparent, and let the repeat orders do the marketing.
Send us the species, the grade and the weekly volume. We will come back with an honest price and an honest lead time — including when we can't supply.
