Metaglobe Trading (Pvt) Ltd
Mixed reef fish freshly landed

Sea crab, cuttlefish, and the fish of the northern coast.

Our range follows the season and the sea. Below is what we buy in volume from Jaffna — and how we prepare it for wholesale and retail buyers.

Core range

Three things we are known for.

Everything here is bought at the Jaffna landings, graded on the spot and iced before it moves. Availability shifts with weather and season — ask us for today’s position rather than assuming.

Sea crab

Handled live, graded honestly, moved fast.

Crab is the least forgiving thing we trade. A weak crab looks the same as a strong one in a photograph and completely different on arrival — so we grade it by hand, at the landing, by people who do it every day.

  • Sold live, claws banded, kept damp and shaded from the point of purchase.
  • Graded by size band and by meat fill, not just by weight.
  • Weak or damaged crab is pulled out before despatch, not passed on.
  • Same-day movement wherever the route allows it.

Cuttlefish & squid

The clock starts the moment it leaves the water.

Cephalopods punish delay faster than almost anything else on the boat. Colour goes, then texture, then price. Ours goes onto ice at the landing and stays there.

  • Available whole, or cleaned to your specification on request.
  • Sorted into size bands so your kitchen or line gets a consistent piece.
  • Iced immediately at the beach — the single biggest factor in final quality.
  • Squid handled alongside cuttlefish, subject to season.
Fish from Jaffna

Many kinds, all landed on the northern coast.

The northern waters give a genuinely broad mix — reef species, bottom fish and pelagics all in the same week. What we can offer on any given day depends on the weather and the boats, so treat the list below as our regular range rather than a standing guarantee.

Reef & bottom fish

Red snapper, emperor, grouper-type reef fish, parrotfish and the mixed reef catch that the northern boats bring in daily.

Pelagics

Seer fish, trevally, tuna and queenfish — the higher-value lines that wholesale buyers and hotels ask for by name.

Small pelagics & volume lines

Sardine, mackerel, herring and similar species, moved in bulk for markets, processors and institutional kitchens.

Mullet & lagoon fish

Lagoon and near-shore species from the northern lagoon systems, popular in the domestic retail trade.

Prawns

Handled seasonally alongside the main range, graded by count and iced on the same discipline as the cuttlefish.

Ask for what isn’t listed

If you need a species we haven’t named, tell us. We would rather source it properly than sell you something adjacent.

How you can buy

Wholesale lots or retail quantities.

We supply both ends of the domestic market and the terms differ, so it is worth telling us up front which one you are.

For markets, hotels, processors, caterers and institutional buyers. Priced per kilo by species and grade, delivered in bulk against an agreed weekly or per-consignment arrangement. Tell us your species, grade, volume and delivery window and we will quote against it.
Smaller quantities for retail outlets and direct customers, packed to order. Useful if you want the same Jaffna quality without committing to a wholesale lot.
Fish is sorted by species and size; crab by size band and meat fill; cuttlefish by size and whether it is whole or cleaned. If your line needs a tighter specification than our standard grades, say so at enquiry stage and we will tell you honestly whether we can meet it consistently.
Supply follows the weather and the season. During rough periods some species simply are not landed. We will always tell you what is genuinely available this week rather than quoting a list we cannot fill.
Export is in preparation rather than in operation. If you are an overseas buyer, we are glad to talk early — see the export page for where we actually are.
