Metaglobe Trading (Pvt) Ltd
Fishing boats in a Sri Lankan lagoon at dawn

The quality argument is won in the first three hours.

Everything Metaglobe does between the boat and the buyer is designed around one fact: seafood only ever gets worse after it is landed. The job is to slow that down.

The route

Jaffna to Chilaw, then out across the island.

Our buying sits in the north, where the catch is. Our trading base sits at Waddakali in Chilaw, on the west coast, where the distribution routes are. Between the two is a cold chain we control rather than rent by the trip.

  • Jaffna district landings — direct purchase from boat owners and fishing societies.
  • Chilaw base — consolidation, grading check and despatch.
  • Island-wide delivery — Colombo, the north-west and onward to buyers nationally.

Cold chain

Where quality is actually lost.

Almost every quality complaint in this trade traces back to one of four moments. Here is how we handle each of them.

01

On the beach

Fish left in the sun while a price is argued over. We buy fast and ice first, then finish the paperwork.

02

In the box

Too little ice, or ice only on top. Insulated boxes, proper ice ratio, layered rather than dumped.

03

On the road

Long waits at transfer points. Routes planned so the load keeps moving instead of sitting.

04

At handover

Boxes opened and re-sorted in the heat. Delivered chilled, checked quickly, signed off on weight and grade.

Grading

A grade only means something if it is applied the same way twice.

Our grading is done by hand by people who have done it for years: species first, then size band, then condition. Anything that does not make the grade comes out of the lot rather than being buried in the middle of the box.

If a consignment is going to fall short, the buyer hears it before despatch. That single habit costs us the occasional sale and saves us every relationship worth keeping.

Straight answers

The questions buyers actually ask.

No. Metaglobe is a trading company. We buy from boat owners and fishing societies in the Jaffna district, which lets us draw on a much wider catch than any single fleet could land — and lets the fishermen keep their independence.
Honestly, no — and neither can anyone else who is telling you the truth. The sea decides. What we can do is tell you early in the week what is genuinely coming in, and give you an alternative rather than a substitution you did not agree to.
Not yet. Export is something we are actively preparing for rather than something we are currently doing, and we are not going to claim approvals we do not hold. See the export page for exactly where we stand.
Tell us the same day, with the box. We would rather settle a genuine complaint quickly than argue it and lose the account. Our whole model depends on repeat buyers, not one-off sales.
Yes. We handle both wholesale lots and retail quantities. Tell us the volume at enquiry stage so we quote you on the right basis.

Tell us what you need and how often you need it.

Send us the species, the grade and the weekly volume. We will come back with an honest price and an honest lead time — including when we can’t supply.
